摘要

One of the co-founders of the World Heritage Air Museum at Detroit, Michigan, Martin J. Tibbitts, died in the crash of his ex-Swiss Air Force de Havilland DH112 Venom FB54, N747J, shortly after take-off from Sheboygan County Memorial Airport in Wisconsin on 20 July. The machine impacted a farm building, injuring two people on the ground. Fifty-year-old Tibbitts was flying to the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture show at Oshkosh, where the World Heritage collection's Vampire T55 N115DH, Gloster Meteor T7WA591/N313Q - acquired from Air Atlantique at Coventry - and the Venom were due to fly in salute to the RAF centenary. The Meteor arrived at Oshkosh on 24 July, and was due to give a tribute display during the show two days later.
