Unlike the French Air Force, the French Navy's air arm, the Aeronautique Navale, has never really had any official aerial ambassadors. From July 1961 to the end of 1962, an aerobatic team made up of six Fouga Zephyr jet trainers was formed by Escadrille 59S. Today it's possible to see occasional role demonstrations by the Rafale Marine, Falcon 10(MER) and 50, E-2C Hawkeye, Atlantique 2 and various helicopters, but these are all operational types, which cannot perform dedicated displays. That's why two naval officers, Cyril Chabrier and Laurent Salesse, decided to give the Aeronavale the public representation it deserves. Thus was born Cocardes Marine, which distinguishes itself from the Armee de FAir's displays through the presentation of historic naval aircraft.
