Great article on the Belvedere (Aeroplane September 2018), otherwise known as the 'Flying Longhouse', one of the politer terms used in Borneo for the type. I was a crewman on No 103 Squadron operating Whirlwind Mk10s from the next dispersal to No 66 Squadron's detachment at Kuching. We were eventually replaced by surplus ex-Shackleton flight engineers, who always seemed grouchy about the job. Few of them were from aircraft trades anyway, the air force having decided that former groundcrew were not really a lot of use on four-engined transport types.
