The excellent two-part 'Football War' article featuring the Corsair in the August and September issues of Aeroplane reminded me of another Corsair story. While I was the Martin-Baker technical representative on the Commander Naval Air Force Atlantic Fleet staff at NAS Norfolk, Virginia in 1967 a Corsair, in French Navy markings, was retrieved from the aircraft storage area and placed on a vacant lot close to the overhaul and repair (O&R) facility. It was in perfect condition with the outer wing panels detached and lying alongside. The aeroplane was to be made airworthy by the O&R and exchanged with the Royal Canadian Navy for a rare OS2U Kingfisher floatplane.
