SGL and BMW invest to create world's biggest plant for carbon fibre

At a groundbreaking ceremony on 9 May 2014, SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers announced it is to invest US$200 million in order to triple capacity at its site in Moses Lake, Washington, USA, and make it the world's largest carbon fibre plant. Moses Lake was established in 2010 by the joint venture's two German owners - SGL Group of Wiesbaden, a specialist in carbon products (including fibres), and Munich-based automobile manufacturer, BMW - who have invested $ 100 million to date to build the plant with two manufacturing lines for carbon fibre offering a combined capacity of 3 kt a year.
