A series of research projects at Fibre Extrusion Technology (FET) in Leeds, UK, have combined to result in new processing technologies and equipment that enable melt-spun nonwovens to be successfully produced from high-melt-viscosity polymers. The work and its consequences will be outlined by the company's Mark Smith of at the forthcoming conference, Nonwovens in High-performannce Applications, which takes place in Cannes, France, on 4-5 March 2015. Conventional melt-blown machines are limited to low-melt-viscosity resins and generally produce high-volume, low-value products. FET's research suggests new opportunities for the creation of valuable materials for high-performance applications.
