Let me begin this review by stating my biases. First, when I consider books based on an academic conference, like this one, I sometimes wonder if they are efforts to promote the more worthy papers from among a relatively small sample. Second, my training, values, and comfort derive from an empirical, so-called traditional philosophy of science that relies on large-scale data, formal quantitative techniques, and rigorous criticism. So when I see metaphors involving dancing and "converging conversations," an ambiguous (to me) concept called transformative cooperation, and ambitious goals aimed at solving today's most vexing problems (e.g., centuries'-long strife in the Middle East, world poverty and hunger, environmental devastation, wide-scale depletion of natural resources), well, again, my skepticism is aroused.
