FROM LEGOS TO LUNA: A NEW COMPETITION FOR STUDENTS

Only half of the people on this planet were alive the last time humans visited the Moon, our closest celestial neighbor. If one considers only the people who were old enough at the time to remember the Apollo program or the American and Soviet robotic missions of the same era, that figure shrinks another few percentage points. As we finish a summer of Apollo anniversaries, it is humbling to think that for literally billions of people, the triumphs of our early lunar expeditions are recalled through films such as Apollo 13, rather than through memories of the missions themselves.
