In a departure from established practice, Central Trailer Rentco is to test a new all-electric power pack from Frigoblock. Hugh O'Mahony investigates. Over many years, reefer trailer operators have come to use flexibility as their guiding principle in defining performance parameters for their refrigerating machinery. No carrier of high value refrigerated goods can guarantee that plug-in power supply will be available during transit, or just as importantly during static storage. Trailer deliveries also tend to mean multiple drop-offs, implying a high number of door openings per day. Thus, reefer machinery needs to work quickly to recover low temperatures.
