PANYNJ to build terminal on Port Jersey Channel

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) is to develop a new container terminal now it has acquired 48ha of land next to the port's Global Marine facility. The property was added by purchasing the remaining years on Northeast Auto Terminal's vehicle processing facility lease with the PANYNJ. The planned container terminal will have an annual throughput capacity of 400,000teu. The port said that the land addition, coupled with the current project to deepen the Port Jersey Channel to 15.25 metres, would allow many of the world's largest ships to serve it when the channel is deepened in 2012.
