EFFECT OF ELASTIC CENTER ON DISLOCATION CORE STRUCTURE IN Ni_3Al

The dislocation core structure of 1/2[101] superpartials in Ni_3Al is studied, using the embedded atom method (EAM) and computer simulation techniques. It is found that the initial position of the dislocation elastic center relative to the atomistic lattice-site has pronounced effect on the dislocation core structure. Two typical cores of the 1/2[101] superpartials sparated by an antiphase boundary (APB) on (111) planes are obtained. The most stable core is non-planar, spread on both (111) and the (111) planes, while the metastable one is planar, spread only on the (111) APB plane.
