This book is built on the premise that the broader conceptualization of information literacy from teachable skills and objectives to a more reflective and adaptable stance toward information is the key to working with, searching for, and understanding information. Metaliteracy involves not only teaching how to search and find information, but also how to move beyond one's own biases to understanding objective truth. The term identity-protective cognition has become the new code word, given how one's reasoning assists in connecting to groups that are important to one's identity whether religious, ethnic, class, political, or something else. In a world where fake news, misinformation, and disinformation have become the new truth, evolving the dialogue and enabling conversations that allow individuals to step outside their comfort zones and listen objectively and discuss calmly others' viewpoints and opinions becomes the new skill set.
