Reports From the 2019 Library Technology Conference Macalester College, St. Paul, MN, March 20-21, 2019

In recent years, the Annual Library Technology Conference in St. Paul, Minnesota invited Dr. Safiya Umoja Noble and Dr. Sarah T. Roberts as keynote speakers who explained how human biases affect the algorithms that control what is available at Internet sites like Google, YouTube, and Wikipedia. Shilad Sen, a computer science professor at Macalester College, continued on that theme with an explanation of how the tweets, posts and clicks created by human users are processed with algorithms to create apps and websites. His research is focused on the cultural norms and biases which influence the algorithms that produce what we see in Wikipedia.
