The meta-analysis by Salpeter and colleagues showed that treatingnpatients with asthma using LABAs results in a small but significantnincrease in death and other major adverse outcomes. Given the highnprevalence of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseasen(COPD) and the convenience of taking long-acting medication, thesenfindings are important.
