Simple Dynamic Emission Strategiesrnfor Microblog Filtering

Push notifcations from social media provide a method tornkeep up-to-date on topics of personal interest. To be eu000bec-rntive, notifcations must achieve a balance between pushingrntoo much and pushing too little. Push too little and thernuser misses important updates; push too much and the userrnis overwhelmed by unwanted information. Using data fromrnthe TREC 2015 Microblog track, we explore simple dynamicrnemission strategies for microblog push notifcations. The keyrnto eu000bective notifcations lies in establishing and maintain-rning appropriate thresholds for pushing updates. We explorernand evaluate multiple threshold setting strategies, includingrnpurely static thresholds, dynamic thresholds without userrnfeedback, and dynamic thresholds with daily feedback. Ourrnbest technique takes advantage of daily feedback in a sim-rnple yet eu000bective manner, achieving the best known resultrnreported in the literature to date.
