The investigative regime initiated by Sarbox in 2002 continues to uncover unwholesome practices. The EU Eighth Company Law Directive on the regulation of auditors was passed more than 20 years ago, and was implemented in the UK as the Companies Act 1989. It is now to be replaced by a version regarded as Europe's own equivalent of Sarbanes-Oxley in the US. It too will be the subject of legislation in member states.
