The business case

One of the themes for 2006 in the EU is policy-makers' commitment to the business agenda with particular emphasis on delivering on their better regulation promises. If the UK adopts a similar approach to the European Commission in withdrawing more than a third of pending legislative proposals and improving 80,000 pages of existing legislation all well and good. With the costs of implementing new legislation reaching some £7bn annually according to the institute's annual enterprise survey, it will make a big difference to future costs for business.
