Reading the newspapers and opinion polls recently, one could be forgiven for thinking it was all over for Gordon Brown's government. Yet, if history is any guide at all, it is far too early to predict accurately the result of the next general election. Two years is an eternity in politics.Even though we hear that several businesses and trade associations have decided to disengage from dialogue with government, we are detecting a new mood for consultation in government. Ministers are beginning to recognise the value in early and full engagement with professionals who can offer real solutions.
