'PAPERLESS OFFICE' SLOWLY BECOMES A REALITY

The move to a paperless office has been slow, with a great number of finance departments still swimming in seas of paper and wasting valuable business resources on manual record keeping and bookkeeping processes. In fact the paperless office remained largely a myth until 2000 when the use of paper in global businesses began falling by one per cent each year. The increasing prevalence of printers and photocopiers meant the worldwide use of office papers more than doubled between 1980 and 2000, even though there was growing concern for the environment during the period and of the impact increasing paperwork had on business productivity. Within the finance world there are many commercial advantages to the paperless office. A seamless streamlined workflow results in improved productivity. Paperless solutions improve client service and relationships through having the ability to instantly access stored documents from any location. Over the last decade, research shows more businesses including accountancy practices worldwide have started taking advantage of office automation software to gain a competitive edge in the market place and lower their reliance on paper, filing cabinets and storage cupboards.
