In Europe, there continues to be a significant problem with unemployment. It is particularly acute among the young but the absolute numbers are also worrying. At the end of March, Spain had both the highest unemployment rate in Europe at 21%, three times that of Germany, and the largest absolute numbers of unemployed. Now that the tourist season has kicked off the good news is that registered unemployment fell in May for the second month in a row.
