SHARE SCHEMES NEED STABILITY

The Office of Tax Simplification's recent report into the simplification of tax-advantaged employee share plans contains some welcome recommendations. The report confirms the continued importance of approved share plans but recognises that important beneficial technical and administrative improvements can be made. The main recommendations concern the approvals process and the future of the discretionary company share ownership plan (CSOP). If implemented, the recommendations will ease the burdens associated with operating such plans and help foster greater employee share ownership.
