Opinion is divided in the profession over the news that HMRC is to review its Business Records Checks plan following widespread criticism from tax representatives, small business groups and MPs. But Stephen Herring, senior tax partner at BDO, said: 'Clearly the tax self-assessment system depends on returning on time your tax liabilities. You can't do that unless you've got sound records showing that.'
