SFO TO PROSECUTE OLYMPUS FOR 'DECEPTIVE' ACCOUNTING

Japanese camera and medical equipment maker Olympus and its UK subsidiary Gyrus Group are to be prosecuted for deceptive financial accounting following a two year-investigation by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO). In an announcement on 2 September, Olympus said the SFO had charged it with breaching Section 501 of the UK Companies Act by providing 'misleading, false or deceptive' material in its financial accounts for Gyrus Group for the financial years 2009 and 2010.
