CRACKDOWN ON AVOIDANCE EXTENDS OFFSHORE

Chancellor George Osborne confirmed plans to tackle wider tax avoidance with the introduction of the general anti-abuse rule (GAAR) from July 2013, and announced plans to 'name and shame' promoters of aggressive tax schemes. The Budget also focused on the introduction of automatic information exchange agreements (lEAs), where crown dependencies and overseas territories enter into an agreement to exchange details on potentially taxable income earned by UK residents.
