CAPPING IHT IS NOT THE ANSWER

On 11 February the health minister Jeremy Hunt announced government plans to cap long-term care costs at ￡75,000, and also confirmed that the cost will be met in part by extending the freeze on the inheritance tax (IHT) threshold at ￡325,000 for three years from 2015/16. I was somewhat surprised to find that the health secretary is now involved with setting tax policy. I was even more surprised by the suggestion that the IHT savings will contribute 'part' of the cost of the cap and I can only think he meant a relatively small part.
