CUP TRUST TAX SCAM DRAWS IN CHARITY COMMISSION

Charity Commission (CC) head William Shawcross has been summoned to appear before the Public Accounts Committee after it was revealed that the Cup Trust avoided paying ￡46m in tax. While Cup Trust, a so-called children's charity, was investigated by the CC it managed to keep trading because it had not broken any charity laws. Tax campaigner Richard Murphy described the scheme - run by the same tax advisers that advised comedian Jimmy Carr last year - as 'a giant ruse'.
