RETIRING ACCOUNTANTS CANNOT RELY ON PRACTICE SALE - CABA

The Chartered Accountants Benevolent Association (CABA) is urging accountants to scrutinise their retirement planning closely, warning accountants who plan for a comfortable retirement based on the proceeds of the sales of their practice that this strategy is increasingly failing. The charity says that it has seen a number of cases where accountants have been unable to sell the practice or been forced to accept a much lower price than expected, leaving their retirement plans in disarray. Some are faced with the choice of either carrying on working or adopting a more frugal lifestyle in retirement.
