ANNUAL NMW UPRATING

The annual uprating of the national minimum wage (NMW) rates is expected to take effect on 1 October. The hourly rate for workers aged 21 and over will rise to £6.50 (from £6.31), for those aged 18 - 20 it will be £5.13 (it was £5.03), the apprentice rate becomes £2.73 (£2.68) and the rate for those aged 17 and under will be £3.79 (£3.72). The living accommodation offset increased from £4.91 to £5.08 per day. With the potential increases in NMW fines (up to £20,000 per worker instead of per employer), NMW errors could be costly for employers.
