The case of Pebble Watch shows just how crowdfunding can work at its best. Started a year ago, the company was developing a smartwatch that interacted with people's smartphones - an area the major players in the business, such as Apple and Samsung, were keen to get involved with. At the time of the launch, the founders were looking to raise $100,000 (£59,000) from crowdfunding for the first production run of its iOS and Android compatible watches. They had no luck with traditional investors, so decided to put a video on Kickstarter, one of the major crowdfunding sites.
