Resuscitation remains a fundamental pillar in the management of the trauma patient. Advanced trauma life support (ATLS) guidelines have gained acceptance as a standardized protocol by which trauma patients are initially managed.1In addition, advancements in both diagnosis and resuscitation have also resulted in new imaging and procedural options that may improve the level of care offered to patients with acute traumatic injuries.2
