Antiphospholipid antibodies in patients with dysglycaemia: Aneglected cardiovascular risk factor?

Cardiovascular disease is a serious complication in patients withdysglycaemia, defined as either type 2 diabetes or impaired glucosetolerance. Research focusing on the identification of potential markers foratherothrombotic disease in these subjects is warranted. Theantiphospholipid syndrome is a common acquired prothrombotic condition,defined by a combination of thrombotic events and/or obstetric morbidity andpositivity of specific antiphospholipid antibodies. Available information onantiphospholipid antibodies in dysglycaemia is scarce.
