Nuclear fragmentation in human A549 AECs in response to meconium. Cells exhibiting nuclear fragmentation with propidium iodide (arrowhead) were scored as apoptotic as compared to normal morphologic nuclei (white arrow). Magnification 200 ×. The scale bar is 100 µm.
