摘要

Flow cytometry (FCM) is a high-throughput technology to measure multidimensional optical properties of single cells. Flow cytometry is widely used in medical diagnosis and health research but there is also a large area of applications in the context of complex microbial communities. Microbial communities are present everywhere in our environment. They are also used in biotechnological applications e.g. for the treatment of waste water, the production of biogas or the manufacturing of platform chemicals. Here, FCM can be used for process monitoring such as for testing drinking water quality, process control and process improvement [ – ]. Natural systems can also be well described by flow cytometry and ecological measures such as diversity and stability indices that were recently established [ – ]. Flow cytometry was also already used to analyze the mice gut microbiome [ ] and the human oral microbiome [ , ].
