It is clinically challenging to distinguish bipolar from major depressive disorder. Manelis et al. use a Bayesian network approach to examine functional and effective connectivity in affected individuals during Win/Loss anticipation. Distinct neurobiological mechanisms underlie aberrant anticipation processes in individuals with bipolar disorder versus major depressive disorder.
