From Model to Materials: The Results of the Dutch Project to Develop Learning Materials for Health Informatics Education

This paper presents an overview of the results of a four year project to develop learning materials based on a health informatics model curriculum that has been developed for Dutch higher professional education in 1995. The learning materials cover the contents of 15 thematic modules of the model curriculum. The centerpiece of each set of learning materials are cases that guide the student through the contents. Each case is supported by a software application that is being used in healthcare practice. A didactic approach combining learning goals, case descriptions, student instructions, software instructions and teacher notes have been applied to each of the sets. Each set is divided into interrelated themes; this allows the teacher to identify contents, which he or she considers appropriate for a tailored health informatics curriculum.
