摘要

BackgroundEnzyme/prodrug gene therapy using stem cells as cellular vehicles is one of the feasible treatment strategies for malignant gliomas, because of the innate tumor tropism of stem cells. Although expectation for its clinical application is high, unrelenting efforts to seek therapeutic effectiveness are imperative. Despite needs for this, useful predictive methods for it have not been reported. Bystander effect which is characterized as a strong tumor killing in herpes simplex virus-thymidine kinase/ganciclovir system (HSV-tk/GCV system) is determined mainly by gap junctional activity. Here, we tried to establish predictive assessment methods for bystander effect measuring functional gap junction using high-content analysis.
