Background. During recent years insulin pump therapy has gained new interest in pediatric diabetology. Results. A total of 1346 patients were analyzed. The mean age was 14.7± 3.8 years while the mean diabetes duration was 7.0± 3.9 years; on average patients used CSII for 1.0 year. In the whole group, HbA1c averaged 9.09± 2.8% , and the rate of severe hypoglycemia was 13.3 per 100 patient years. The height of pump patients was nearly identical to the reference group, while weight and BMI were significantly increased. Conclusions. The number of patients with CSII is growing constantly in all age groups. Patients on CSII have less severe hypoglycemia, but meta-bolic control (HbA1c) is still insufficient. In the future prospective intervention trials should be performed to define the outcome of CSII.
