David Lodge is a well-known British contemporary writer and literary critic.He is the author of two biographical fictions,namely,Author,Author and A Man of Parts.Biographical fiction or biofiction/bionovel is an increasingly popular subgenre of the contemporary novel.After the Postmodernist Biofictions Conference which was held on 25March,2017 at Reading University,UK,Lodge could not give the author a face-to-face interview because of his old age and his gradual loss of hearing.He promised that he could be interviewed via email.Later,he answered the questions of the author and emailed them to the author.Lodge explained the origins of biofiction,defined biography and biofiction and distinguished biofiction from postmodernist biofiction.He holds that the formal differences would be the same as that between any traditional novel and any postmodernist novel;postmodernist biofiction and postmodernist novel both contain elements of parody,metafictional frame-breaking,etc.;biofiction does not pretend to replace biography;there is an ethical dimension to writing a bionovel,and a bionovelist has a responsibility to be fair to his/her subject,but also to be truthful;it has become popular in English writing in the last thirty years or so and it reflects a general tendency in modern culture and society towards fact-based narrative in drama and film as well as literature in the West.In addition,Lodge expounded the basic theories correlated with this.
