The basic principle of the temperature difference contribution method was introduced and the effect of the change in temperature difference of system on the heat exchange area was analyzed. The result showed that when the temperature differences of the system increased or decreased, the decrease or increase of the heat exchantge area concentrated on the heat exchangers near thepinch point. A refinery-hydrogenation process was used as an example for optimum calculation by both the single Δ Tmin method and the temperature difference contribution method.
