Rhythm of Parallelism in English Political Speech —— Taking I Have a Dream as an Example

摘要

Two groups of parallelism in Martin Luther King's I Have a Dream are selected to analyze the rhythmic features in terms of prominence and duration. By applying Praat to label the sentences, some findings are as follows: In parallel sentences, the duration of each parallel structure is more or less equal due to the same number of prominence, although sentence length is different; the mean duration ofsyllables in long sentences is shorter as a result of vowel truncation.
