For the next six months there is plenty to rock the cradle of Europe's democracy. Greece has taken over the Presidency of the European Union and will now have to steer the 1 5 countries through what looks like being a difficult and dangerous period. War with Iraq is imminent and will challenge the 15 EU members not only to demonstrate(示范, 证明,论证)their resolve but to maintain the close relations with Washington that America has every right to demand. Preparing the EU itself to receive ten new members in 18 months will also entail work that must begin immediately.
