Silicon material at 1.2 ~ 6.6(xm has high transparency and high Raman gain features, which easily results to stimulate mid-infrared Raman laser in the near room temperature. This paper firstly describes the most concern problem of the nonlinear conversion efficiency of silicon laser. Secondly, it introduces the research by applying pure silicon as Raman laser gain media, and reports the research status.
