The latest safety code for special purpose ships (SPS) has been adopted since 2008, superseding the previous Resolution A.534(13). Based on the calculation example of a special pilot ship, this paper analyzes the difference between the two generations of SPS codes on subdivision stability. It is found that the essential ideas behind the two codes are different, resulting in even more different subdivision design characteristics. The new code not only further guarantees the safety of ships but also brings more flexibility to the subdivision design. It has opened up a new pattern for the subdivision design of special purpose ships.%最新特种用途船(SPS)安全规则在2008年通过,替代了原来A.534(13)决议通过的SPS规则。
