The Tongshan mine with exploitation history of over 50 years is an established mine with serious resource-crisis. But new orebodies with reserves of more than 0. 22mt copper have been discovered in the mine's deep just during recently completed exploration program of succeed resources for the crisis mine. In this paper, the authors summarize the successful experiences and achievements of deep ore exploration in the Tongshan mine, and discuss the influencing factors for successful exploration of deep ores. Creation of the metallogenic models with prediction capability is critical for prediction of the deep orebodies. But reliable prediction requires support from the decision-making for exploration engineering and investing, the sound prediction of deep ores can be transformed into the economic valuable ore reserves.
