The application of the energy dissipation in civil engineering, particularly in seismic and wind protection has become increasingly popular along with the development of science and technology. This paper summarizes the development and application of damper in civil engineering. The energy dissipation patterns, the kinds and the configuration patterns are illustrated in this paper.
