康拉德眼中的非洲——对《黑暗之心》的后殖民主义阅读

摘要

康拉德在《黑暗之心》里虽然揭露了殖民主义对非洲和土著黑人的压迫和剥削,但是非洲在他的笔下是一块危险,神秘,荒芜的土地; 非洲人是原始,野蛮,迷信的人群.康拉德的描写符合了西方对非洲的一贯表述,体现了康拉德的欧洲中心主义观念以及身为欧洲人的优越感.非洲在《黑暗之心》里被东方化,成为欧洲构建自己身份的他者.%Conrad in Heart of Darkness exposed the West's oppression and exploitation of the native people in Africa,Africa is described dangerous,mysterious and wild;Africans are primitive,savagery and superstitious.All this fits the western stereotypes of Africa and reveals Conrad's superiority and Eurocentricity.Africa in Heart of Darkness is orientalized.I will support my idea from the following aspects:the misrepresentation or description of Africa and the Africans;Africa's being blamed to be responsible for the white's degeneration and destruction;the narration in the novel is unfavorable to Africa.
