严修（1860—1929），出身进士，官至学部侍郎，是著名教育家，与日本有长期交往史。其长子严智崇，曾任中国驻日使馆秘书。次子严智怡，曾任河北教育厅长。还有其他子女，均曾留学日本。严修家族在日本教育界、文化界、外交界拥有众多挚友，曾经进行过频繁的友好交流，堪称佳话。%Yan Xiu （1860 - 1929）, Jinshi origin, rose to Shi Lang （Vice Minister） in the Department on Education in Qing Dynasty. He was a famous educator and had a long friendly exchanges and contacts with Japan. His eldest son, Yan Zhichong, was once the secretary in the Chinese embassy in Japan. His second son, Yan Zhiyi, was once the director of education department of Hebei. All his other children had the experience of studying in Japan. Yan Xiu＇s family had many intimate friends in Japanese educational, cultural and diplomatic circles. They had frequent friendly exchanges and established magnificent friendship.
