%Contemporary American author Jonathan Saffran Foer’s novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is one of the representatives of “9·11” theme novel. This essay explores the relationship between disaster, trauma, aphasia and expression in a unique way. Disaster caused trauma, trauma resulted in aphasia;because of aphasia, the author had to use non-situational words, numbers, sequence images etc to “speak” the traumatic characters’ difficult existence. Such kind of “speaking”improved the novel’s historical and realistic sense. Realistic aphasia resulted from historical pain, trauma of reality is hidden in historical reasons. “ 9·11” novels are in search of its unique way of expression.
