《静止的生活》是英国当代作家A．S．拜厄特四部曲的第二部。作为主要人物之一的斯蒂芬妮在小说结尾出人意料地触电身亡，成为作品中最大的隐喻。本文从语言风格、词汇意义、语言功能入手，以弗洛伊德死亡本能理论、康德道德宗教概念、以及死亡与悲剧的内在关系解读斯蒂芬妮的生死意义，通过对其死亡场景描写的探究分析其死亡的深层次动因，指出积极的死亡以否定的形式传达生命的力量，其意义在于开启生者新的生命，并以此分析拜厄特的生死哲学观。%In A.S.Byatt's Still Life, Stephanie , one of the major characters , dies metaphorically at the end of the novel .On the basis of Freudian death instinct , Kant's moral religion , and the relationship between death and tragedy , this paper analyzes the signification of Stephanie's death from the perspectives of prose style , lexical meaning , and language function .Deathconveys the power of life in a negative way to start a new life , through which the motivation of Stephanie's death and Byatt's view on death are presented .
