“The dense exotic atmosphere”is one of the literary creation characteristics ofōba Minako, who sojourned in the US. for 11 years-a rare cultural experience among the native Japanese female writers. Thus, ever since her first well-known novel ThreeCrabswon the“New Writer Award”and“Akutagawa Award”in 1968, she has masterly constructed the Japanese and even the Asian cultural circle with a boldness and unruliness which is very rare among Japanese writers.ōba’s deep traditional cultural appreciation makes her able to use the eastern historical and cultural accumulation smoothly and subtly. Therefore, her strong flavor of eastern elements can hardly be sheltered from the exotic atmosphere and the foreign stage. This article explores the characteristics ofōba’s regional narration in her literary work from the perspective of her model for literary construction.
